Hospital Registrar

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for registering patients for various services in the organization. This position accurately enters and obtains all demographic information to include insurance information. Obtains all patients forms such as consent forms. Maintains knowledge of all organizational polices including patient privacy rules. Also pre registers patients for various areas.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Patient Access and within established policies and procedures, the incumbent performs the following functions:

1. Gathers, verifies and enters accurate demographic and financial data on patients registered.

2. If applicable to assist in the department needs can pre-registers selective patients either by phone or from history

3. Obtains consents, assignment of benefits and releases.

4. Prepares ID bracelets and labels and distributes with admission forms.

5. Files completed admission packets for proper department pick up.

6. Provides patients with information required by federal mandates, i.e., Patient Rights and Responsible, Advance Care Directives, and discharge messages from Medicare.

7. Scans insurance cards and any other applicable document in our software.

8. Transcribes all non surgical admissions to the admission's log and distributes data to appropriate areas.

9. Plays an important role in the Revenue Cycle.

10. Reviews posted material and participates in staff meetings.

11. Participates in appropriate role in disasters, fire drills, fires and other emergency situations.

12. Practices infection control through adherence to department and hospital policies and procedures.

13. Exercises care in the operation and use of equipment and reference materials. Performs routine maintenance to ensure continued functioning of equipment. Maintains work area in a clean and organized manner.

14. Performs similar or related duties as assigned or directed

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Courses in typing and computer skills; medical terminology preferred.


Experience:

  • Customer service relations and office experience preferred.
