Functions as an integral member of the unit-based care delivery team by performing a variety of technical components essential to the ongoing delivery of quality patient care. Performs a variety of generic and population-specific technical activities, which support the delivery of optimal patient care while maintaining the highest level of patient safety. To complete appropriate unit-based elements of EKG processes and/or phlebotomy.
Essential Functions: Emergency Department
1. Administers necessary skin prep and applies cardiac monitor.
2. Changes batteries on telemetry units, stocks electrodes and cleans monitoring equipment.
3. Obtains strips of rhythm changes during Code Blue.
4. Notifies the nurse of any alarms that are inactive, collaborates with the nurse then adjusts alarm settings to patient's rate when required.
5. Must perform 12-lead Electrocardiogram (EKG) within ten minutes of receiving notification.
6. Collaborates with department coordinator to facilitate accurate laboratory order entry, processing and appropriate charging.
7. Assists the physician to position patient for procedures such as splinting, lumbar puncture, etc.
Licensure/Certification:
• Current registration in the State of New Hampshire as a Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) and / or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians EMT/AEMT certification.
• BLS certified. If not BLS certified, must obtain American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification prior to completion of orientation, not to exceed 21 days from date of hire with Catholic Medical Center. Must maintain BLS throughout employment.
