RN, Invasive Scheduling Coordinator - New England Heart & Vascular

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Invasive Scheduling Nurse Coordinator is a highly organized RN with exemplary communication and teaching skills, with the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment, providing care to adult cardiology outpatient clinic patients. The Invasive Nurse coordinates and assists in scheduling patient procedures in the Cardiac Diagnostic and Interventional Cath Lab as well as the Electrophysiology Lab. Ensures effective delivery of clinical patient care and compliance of administrative and clinical policies and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direct supervision of the Practice Administrator, NEHVI and the Clinical Lead and within established Catholic Medical Center departmental policies and procedures, the incumbent performs the following functions:

Essential Functions

  1. . Reviews procedural booking to confirm procedures booked according to clinical order and chart notes Coordinates patient testing requirements and hospital-based procedures.


2. Reviews clinical data from diagnostic studies and previous records.

3. Ensures all clinical orders have been completed: testing, anticoagulation, medication, and procedural orders.

4. Provides patients and/or designee with instructions prior to procedure and ensures all tests and labs have been ordered.

5. Provides teaching/ education based on patient/ family assessed needs and assesses the patient's response to and understanding of instructions.

6. Documents provider recommendations/ guidelines and patient/family interactions/ instructions in the medical record.

7. Collaborates with the Cath Lab and Electrophysiology Lab Team Leads/ Designees to establish order of procedures. Assists to prioritize the scheduling of patient procedures as it relates to patient issues and physician concern for priority.

8. Communicates essential information to pertinent areas (Cath lab, EP lab, Nursing Units, Non-Invasive Cardiology, Radiology, Optimization Clinic, NEHVI Invasive Scheduling) prior to scheduled/ planned procedures.

9. Collaborate with referring cardiologists/ cardiology offices/ referring facilities to coordinate pre procedure records are received prior to planned procedures in the Cardiac Cath Lab and Electrophysiology Lab.

10. Meets weekly with Department Directors/ Designee in Non-Invasive, HVIU, Cardiac Cath Lab, Electrophysiology Lab and Invasive Scheduling Staff to review cases, provider schedules and evaluate/improve workflow. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to develop an integrated plan of care.

Secondary Functions:

1. Serves as a resource to staff and other departments.

2. Participates in staff meetings and other meetings as assigned.

3. Identifies needs for new or revised policies, procedures, guidelines

4. Participates in continuing development activities, maintains professional affiliations, and licenses and strives to increase nursing skill and knowledge.

5. Participates in appropriate role in disasters, fire drills, fires and other emergency situations.

6. Exercises care in the operation and use of equipment and reference materials. Maintains work area in a clean and organized manner.

7. Performs similar or related duties as assigned or directed.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

Education:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

• BSN Strongly preferred

Experience:

• Cardiology experience preferred

• Strong organizational skills

• Effective communication skills

Licensure/Certification:

• Current registration in the state of New Hampshire as a Registered Nurse.

• BLS certified. Must maintain BLS throughout employment.

• ACLS certified. Must maintain ACLS throughout employment.
